HOW TO BECOME A POLICE WITNESS
How to become a Police Witness
Becoming a Police Witness is easy; all you need is a HD camera and access to the internet.
For car use, you will need a mounted or clamped in-car digital video recorder or DVR for short. You will then need access to the internet to enable you to report the incidents you witness. At the end of this section is a link to ‘Which Camera’, a guide to choosing the right in-car camera for you.
Or if you don't drive, use your camera phone, camcorder, or pocket camera, assuming of course it records in high definition. If not, then respectfully, don't bother, the images will not be of prosecution quality. A helmet cam, or cycle mounted camera is another great way to protect yourself. Click the 'I want one' link below to see an example.
Or.... Use one of ours?
Remember the Police Witness service is free to anyone using a Justice Camera. (one of our cameras)
In summary it’s a ‘fit for purpose’ camera sourced by PoliceWitness.com. Our appropriately named 'Justice' Cameras come directly from a manufacturer, thus cutting out middlemen and additional costs. The images captured are of a suitable quality for use in a court of law. A Justice Camera comes with a unique membership number that identifies you as a member, allowing you to report as many incidents as you like for free. (I want one - click here)
Whilst we recommend you use a Justice Camera, other high quality cameras can be used. Please ensure you read the ‘Which Camera’ page to ensure you make the right camera selection.
Armed with your evidence which has been recorded onto the memory card in your Justice Camera, you are now ready to formally report as many incidents as you like via our ‘report an incident’ short cut button, available on every page of our website. Once you hit send for the first time, you are officially a Police Witness!
NEW - With so many people contacting us about poor levels of service from the police, PoliceWitness.com now offers a 'complaints' advocacy service to all of our customers! You are no longer alone.
Making a complaint about a police officers conduct is something very few of us do, however as with any industry or business, how will things change if we don't?
Using our in-depth knowledge of how the police service works we ensure that your complaint is dealt with fairly and appropriately - after all YOU are the customer. Never forget that.
Making a complaint really isn't that scary, you just need to know who to talk to and what to say to ensure your complaint is 1) recorded at an appropriate rank to ensure it doesn't happen again, and 2) dealt with to your satisfaction and beyond. Our aim is not to alienate the police, in fact quite the opposite, our objective is to ensure you receive the level of service you first expected, in doing so restoring your faith in the Police service.
**COMING SOON** - in recognition of the great work community volunteers provide, PoliceWitness.com is currently working to provide a unique 'Identification' credit card proposition which at presentation will allow you to recieve unique discounts off everyday purchases, from car repairs through to general groceries and beyond. Working with chosen retailers and service providers it is our joint objective to ensure you are recognised and rewarded for your efforts and the great work you do in your community. The scheme will be operated by a major card provider, in association with PoliceWitness.com and will be open to neighbourhood watch volunteers, special constables, St Johns ambulance and of course Police Witnesses.
